Aflame for Kids Mentoring Program

What does Aflame for Kids involve?

  • One caring adult spends one hour per week with one child at the school
  • The mentor completes applications for church and  school
  • Mentors select the best day and time for their schedule
  • Teachers  select the children and match as best they can with mentor schedule and interests
  • There will be a brief training and bag of supplies given
  • Mentors select a church member as a prayer partner
  • During the hour mentors assist  with work given by the teacher,  play a game, and share interest in the child's world
  • They offer praise and support
  • Substitutes are available for the occasional mentor absence
  • Work is during the school year only; no summer mentoring

*YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A PILL!!!*

We are collecting your used little brown bottles to send to 60 underdeveloped nations throughout the world.

Here is how we're doing it:

  • Take your empty bottle
  • Remove the labels
  • If you have difficulty doing this, just be sure your personal information is removed
  • Bring the bottles (with caps) to the Family Life Center and place them in the white basket at the bottom of the steps to the second floor.

So far we have collected almost 4,000 bottles since Easter and sent them to the PET (Personal Energy Transportation) Project in Green Cove Springs to be sent overseas on Mercy Ships, and other ships that provide medical aid to other countries. These bottles (plus medical supplies, clothing, personal needs etc.) are used to "take up space" in the crates the PETs are packed for shipping.

If you are not familiar with PET - they are hand operated wheel chairs (with bicycle chains that can be turned by hand to transport the individual with amputated legs over dirt roads etc.) The web site is www.petflorida.org for more information.
