Stephen
Ministry
Christ Caring For People
Through People
A Stephen Minister is a trained lay member of
the congregation who will visit with you weekly (or as needed), listen, offer resources and
referrals if needed, pray with and for you, and offer Christian love and support
with complete confidentiality.
Stephen Ministers have studied extensively
about dealing with feelings, crisis intervention, asserting oneself with
gentleness and firmness, and many other aspects of helping individuals through
problems and changes. They are caring supportive Christian people, who have a
desire to be with you in time of need.
Whom Do I Call?
If you are in need of a Stephen
Minister or know someone who is, or if you would like to know more about the
program, you can reach one of the Stephen lay leaders by calling the Orange Park
United Methodist Church office (904)264-2241.

local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The
program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and
encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of
all." The Coordinator for Emmaus is Debbie Frendahl.

Mentoring Program - AFlame for Kids
The mentoring program is a partnership with W. E. Cherry Elementary
School. The school has children who need a caring adult to spend one hour, one day per week, with
one child at the school through May. The hour includes: tutoring with
material given by the teacher, some general sharing time with the student,
perhaps some "work-off steam" time, and additional reading. Mentors
are given training and a bag of materials to aid in planning the hour.
Applications are in the church office or from Mary Cook at 215-2915 or
marycook1840@comcast.net.
